November Update

Worship Night While working with the young people at the Sonshine Center, I've begun to see a pattern in their lives. They work hard, and teach and lead, but they struggle to have a deep relationship with God, or understand His heart for them. They work in order to have a place, or so that they will be respected, instead of working out of a place of love and passion for God. One of the young ladies I have been working personally with for the past six months came to me one day last month to tell me she did not think she could continue leading. I asked her why, and she told me something that is very revealing of the mindset in these young people. She failed one of her college classes, and because of that she was no longer worthy to be an example to the children. I spoke with her about who she is in Christ, and the importance of her example to not quit even when things are very difficult, but the mindset she revealed is much deeper. My roommate, Christa, and I planned this ni...

God's Heart

Working with children of every kind of background has reminded me of our core purpose on this earth. We are here to show people the love of their Father. No matter what material possessions they have or do not have. No matter what their social status. Every human being is craving for the love of God, and He desires for every one of them to experience His love. It was wonderful to share that love with the children at Semester Break Camp, but it is something we do every day here at the Camp Sonshine Center. Our desire is to show every child that comes through our doors who they are in God's eyes, and how much He loves them. Giving instructions for the Amazing Race activity time! The children loved trying to complete the challenges as quickly as they could! After the Amazing Race, we had time for water games! This is always a favorite time for the kids! Water games included some Sponge Dodge Ball! One of the young people taught the children about the import...

September Update

Image
This month of ministry was such a joy to put together and be a part of! Before the first Thursday club of September, the children signed up for a workshop to be a part of for the entire month. We had LITs (Leaders In Training) who prepared and taught each workshop! We had Guitar/Keyboard, Drums, Vocal, Arts, and Sports workshops. What fun! I hope you enjoy seeing a little bit of what the kids enjoyed learning this month!  The children loved learning guitar from one of our Sr. LITs, Zac!  Allan did a fantastic job teaching some of the boys basketball! In the Arts Workshop, the children worked together to make special decorations for our Thursday Birthday Party Club! The theme was "Under the Sea". After club we provide dinner for the children! This meal was Adobo Egg with rice, all in a bag! One of our Jr. LITs taught keyboard! The children did amazing as they...

August Update

“She’s the mama. I let her take care of making sure the LITs are ok!”  I froze for a moment as Nomil told this to some of the other missionaries. He was talking about me, and I wasn’t sure I was prepared to take on that role. I knew God was preparing me to step into more of a leadership role with the young people, but I did not realize how quickly it would happen!  As Nomil and Valerie Adorado prepare to go to the States for partner building and training, I prepare to enter a place of leadership and responsibility that both terrifies and excites me! Still, I know that God has prepared the way before me, and it is by His strength alone that I will lead the young people this year. This past month has been filled with meetings, outings, scheduling, and lots of laughter. I am greatly enjoying the opportunity to work hand-in-hand with the young people as they learn how to plan, prepare, organize, and lead Kid’s Clubs. I look forward to finding out what God has planned ...
